At the Ann Arbor Art Fairs, four independently juried art fairs rolled into one massive art show and sale, 1,200 artists from across the country, including 22 from the Grand Rapids area, are able to showcase their latest pieces to throngs of spectators.

“This is a great opportunity to get your work in front of thousands of people,” said Grand Rapids painter Jeff Condon. “It is the largest audience of all the shows I do. It is also the largest concentration of artists.”

The Ann Arbor fairs also include the Street Art Fair, the State Street Area Art Fair and the Summer Art Fair. Each is situated in its own nook of the city, complete with its own artists and jurors.

The Street Art Fair — the first Ann Arbor fair — commemorates its 49th anniversary this year. Located on Ingalls Mall Lawn near Burton Tower in the North University area, this fair allots booth space to 175 artists and will be filled with artwork accepted by 12 jurors and a seven-member Jury Advisory Group. The jurors award 10 cash prizes, which will be presented at an awards breakfast Thursday.

The State Street Area Art Fair makes its 41st appearance this year and showcases the most recent works of 325 artists, each of whom had to win over a group of nine jurors to secure a spot in this fair.

The Summer Art Fair, in its 39th year, is divided into a campus section on State Street and a downtown section on Main Street. In it, 375 artists show and sell their work.
