ART HK 08 has announced a list of just under 100 galleries from 19 countries that are signed up to participate in the fair’s inaugural edition, which takes place in Hong Kong from May 14 to 18. The fair has also announced a lead sponsor, the global investment bank Lehman Brothers.

Works for sale at ART HK 08 will range from blue-chip offerings to pieces from emerging artists, according to fair organizers. Among the international dealers scheduled to participate are New York and Paris’s Yvon Lambert, London and New York’s Albion, Berlin and L.A.’s Peres Projects, and Seoul’s PYO Gallery.

ART HK 08 is positioning itself as the first international art fair to be staged in over a decade in Hong Kong, and fair organizers are highlighting the city itself as a global destination where no taxes or duties are imposed upon the import or export of art.

The director of the fair is Magnus Renfrew, a Bonhams alum and former manager and head of exhibitions at Contrasts Gallery in Shanghai.
