The Department of Agriculture has named a former Pennsylvania State Fair Queen to oversee the commonwealth’s fair and agritourism marketing program.
Kristi Rooker, a Fayette County native, will serve as the administrator of the state’s fair grant program and the Agricultural & Rural Youth Grant Program.
“The department plays a key role in the 116 county and community fairs across Pennsylvania, as well as the many agricultural and rural youth organizations located throughout the state,” said Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff. “Kristi’s extensive background with local fairs, the state fair queen program and local agricultural youth organizations, such as the 4-H, will help her provide the high level of service we have committed to those programs.”
Rooker will work out of the department’s Bureau of Market Development, administering the grant program created through the Pennsylvania Agricultural Fair Act. The program allocates capital improvement project grants to eligible Pennsylvania fairs.
The Agricultural and Rural Youth Grant program provides community youth organizations access to a $110,000 fund for projects, programs and learning opportunities related to the industry.
Rooker most recently served as an information specialist in the department’s press office, where she helped promote the state’s agricultural initiatives.
