MORE than 10,000 visitors are expected to attend the International Health Tourism Exhibition opening in Bahrain today.

The event features more than 120 exhibitors from 12 countries in the Arab region and around the world, who will be offering the latest information on technologies and standards of healthcare, as well as tourist destinations.

The International Health Tourism Exhibition will be held until Friday at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre.

It is organised by Amadeus International Fairs Group under the patronage of the Information Minister Jihad Bukamal, who will open the event at 10am today.

Last year, the 1,500 sqm exhibition attracted 7,000 visitors. This year it has grown to 2,000sqm and organisers have high hopes many more visitors will attend. “It’s a unique exhibition and a new trend in the market,” Amadeus International Fairs Group managing director Hisham Saleh told the GDN.

Mr Saleh said health tourism was becoming popular because more and more people were travelling for medical treatment and making it part of their family holiday.

The exhibition, now in its fifth year, is the only health tourism exhibition in the region.
