Ghana 2008 International Trade Fair Launched

Ghanaian embassies abroad are set to participate in the 12th International Trade Fair as the event is set to take place between February and March next year.

This is part of moves to attract more foreign exhibitors to the event.

With the theme, “Promotion of Trade and Investment Opportunities”, the fair is scheduled to open on 20th February and close on 9th March, 2008.

Launching this year’s fair in Accra yesterday, Kwame Ofori-Amanfo, Solicitor Secretary of the Ghana Trade Fair Company said the regular organization of the fair would help put Ghana on the calendar of world events.

Despite the advancement of ICT, which has propelled the introduction of e-commerce amongst other programmes, the organization of trade fairs continues to play a major role in the promotion of the country’s trade and investment.

This may be because fairs provide individuals with the chance to identify and get to know products, helping them to make informed decisions.

According to Mr Ofori-Amanfo, the promotion of trade has a positive effect on all sectors of the economy.

He said more participants have started booking space and making reservations earlier this year than last, with 205 exhibitors already registered, in contrast to 161 at the same time last year.

The organizers indicated that whilst last year there were 903 local and 161 foreign exhibitors, this year it aims to attract 350 foreign exhibitors and 950 local exhibitors, increasing the proportion of foreign exhibitors.

Speaking anonymously, a representative of the Agriculture Development Bank (ADB) who has participated in the fair for many years, observed that it is essential to call on the organizers to ensure that exhibitors get their money’s worth.

However, the organizers assured registered and potential participants that enough measures are being put in place to address those problems.

It will be recalled that the organizers at the launch of the 10th International Trade Fair made it known that the fair would be organized annually.
