Bolton Fair struggles to survive
Published September 15th, 2007
After 125 years, reality has finally caught up to the Bolton Fair.
“This is the make or break year,” said Rose Darden, fair president. “If it’s a bad weather year, we’ll have to do some soul searching.”
The Bolton Fair is in jeopardy. Last year, it lost more than a quarter of its revenue due to stormy winds and rain on Sunday. When the fair was held in Bolton on town-owned land, the shortfall wouldn’t have been so disastrous. But now that the fair has acquired land in Lancaster, it has to keep up with financial obligations like a mortgage, insurance payments, infrastructure improvements and operating expenses.
