The four-day ‘China Trade Fair 2006′ began Friday at the Birendra International Convention Centre on Friday.
Nepal-China Executive Council (NCEC), China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCEP) and Machinery Sub-Council are jointly organising the fair on the even of the Dashain festival.
According to the organisers, the trade is being organising to promote trade and tourism between China and Nepal and Chinese investment in Nepal.
A wide variety of goods ranging from household things and garments to high level electronic and machinery equipment are put on display at the fair.
Addressing the inaugural session, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs KP Sharma Oli said that interactions and people-to-people contacts through such fairs would definitely enhance trade by familiarising each others’ quality products and identifying markets by business persons of both the countries.
“I hope the liberal trade and investment policies of Nepal would encourage Chinese investors to make investment in Nepal and that will benefit the Nepalese economy,” he said.
“Various trade and cultural fairs that were organised during the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries have added a new and fruitful dimension in the annals of our relations,” Oli said.
Chinese Ambassador Sun Heping said such kind of fair would promote bilateral economy and relationship between Nepal and China.
President of the Nepal Chambers of Commerce Surendra Bir Malakar said although China had become an economic powerhouse in the modern world lack of knowledge of Chinese business and legal system had affected bilateral trade. “No significant Chinese tourists are seen in Nepal, as tourism is one of the major businesses in our country.”
Others who also spoke at the programme were Kush Kumar Joshi of FNCCI and Anup Ranjan Bhattarai and Shankar Ghimire of the NCEC.
