Ancaster Fairgrounds up for sale

Published June 3rd, 2006

After 57 years of candy floss, sheep shearing and horse racing, the Ancaster Fairs grounds is for sale for a cool $19.25 million.

Hitting the open market May 24, realtor Bob Pettigrew said 37 prospective buyers have already picked up bid packages. The last bit of land left in the Meadolwands neighbourhood, its location beside the provincial greenbelt makes it that much more valuable, said Mr. Pettigrew.

If sold, the Ancaster Fair might move to Highway 2 and 52 where Kathy Smith, the fair’s general manager, said the Agricultural Society has a conditional offer on 75 acres.

While the almost $20 million price-tag seems beyond the reach of most citizens, Ms. Smith said the grounds will not be sold unless the Agricultural Society can generate enough money to move.
