Fairs to showcase Wichita schools

Parents who couldn’t attend this year’s Wichita schools Choices Fair will get another chance at two upcoming smaller fairs.

The fairs will be held Friday at the Little Early Childhood Development Center and Jan. 27 at the Center for Multilingual Education Services.

This year’s Choices Fair at Century II was the largest in recent memory, drawing about 5,500 people, said coordinator Margo Nunn.

“It was a high success,” she said. “It’s one of the best ones we’ve had. We had a really, really large turnout. Things went very smoothly.”

While the Choices Fair allows parents to get information on all the district’s schools and special programs, the smaller fairs will concentrate on magnet schools, Nunn said.

“There won’t be booths set up. They’ll be more like information tables,” she said. “Basically it’ll be elementary and middle school magnets and Northeast (Magnet High School).”

Both fairs will also have applications and Vietnamese and Spanish translators, Nunn said.

Parents will have a chance to visit most magnet schools at open houses this week. Northeast’s open houses will be Jan. 24 and Feb. 2.
