Vietnam Increases Fairs Funding

The Ministry of Trade said yesterday in Hanoi that this amount constitutes a year-on-year increase of 29%.

The money was poured into 184 national trade promotion projects at a total cost of VND322bil in key areas covering garments, footwear, tea and coffee, among others.

The remaining money came from private enterprises.

“These projects have greatly contributed to raising the country’s export turnover this year,” said Luong Van Tu, Deputy Minister of Trade, “and Vietnam expects to earn a total revenue of $32bil this year, up 20% from a year earlier.”

Mr Tu further encouraged industries to devise more effective and practical trade promotion projects for 2006.

The ministry also reported that two centres featuring Vietnamese products in New York and Dubai have organised many activities to assist local companies meet foreign partners.

“Our export value is just one third of Thailand’s and two thirds of the Philippines,” Mr Tu said.

Vietnam must therefore make great efforts to notch up $100bil per year in the future and only at that time will its position in the world trade arena rise, he said.
